What is a life worth-monetarily?
Based on the true story of what happened after 9/11 to compensate the victim’s families for their loved one’s deaths, this film asks the question: is the life of a CEO the same as a janitor? How do you put a dollar cost on a life lost?
Michael Keaton plays the renowned mediator Kenneth Feinberg who leads the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. Feinberg was so moved by the tragedy he volunteered his law firm to seek compensation for the families of those who died in the World Trade Center and Pentagon Pro Bono. Feinberg was a “by the numbers” guy and had success in resolving conflicts by having both parties come to a mutual resolution to settle cases. The 9/11 situation was far from anything he had ever tackled and over several years he tried to get justice for the families he came to realize his past formula wasn’t going to work this time.
I never knew this part of the horror of 9/11. It is a thought provoking and inspirational telling of a tragic part of our recent history.
