Anthony Hopkins plays a man who is suffering from dementia and Olivia Colman is heart-breaking as his daughter and caretaker. This prize-winning French play of the same name was adapted by Florian Zeller who is also the director of the film.
Certainly, dementia is a tragedy many families face when their loved ones’ age. However, the interesting thing about “The Father” is that it shows us how frightening it must be for the person who is going through this horrible experience as well as the family.
Both Hopkins and Colman are some of the world’s greatest actors of our time and they do justice to this tragic, yet heart felt tale. To their credit they are both nominated for 2021 Academy Awards as is Zeller and the film itself. All are deserving.
