Cast: Audrey Hepburn
Rated: G
I have seen another film about Audrey Hepburn a few years ago so I almost did not watch this because I thought I knew a lot about her. I’m so happy I did not pass on this one. The combination of still photos, early home movies and news clips makes this a very interesting documentary.
The film covers her personal life and her Hollywood career. Born in Holland, she survived the Nazi occupation but suffered greatly from malnutrition like so many of her countrymen. This hardship would effect her life path. As a child she wanted to become a ballet dancer but after the war her body was so malnourished she couldn’t perform at the level as her peers. This is when she moved to acting and quickly became a star earning her first Academy Award at 24 years old.
Many of her friends, family and colleagues voice thoughts and remembrances of Audrey. This makes the movie very moving in many instances. Her relationships with her husbands and Hubert de Givenchy are well chronicled. At the end of film her work as the global ambassador for UNICEF was featured and it shows her great love of children and the remarkable work she did for the organization until her death.
