Stars: Taylor Swift
Rated: PG-13
This 2020 documentary about the life of Taylor Swift was surprising to me. While I think she is a very talented singer-songwriter, I really didn’t know much about her as a person. The film follows her career from a very young person to the super star she is today.
Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Taylor and her family moved to Nashville Tennessee to help her pursue her dream of a music career. The film shows how she was very gifted as a child being able to write music and perform at a very young age. The home movies of her are remarkable showing her talent early in her life. She is very candid about the ups and downs of fame and the people who shaped her life.
While I have admired her as a performer, I really had no idea how various things had affected her career. Having been at the forefront of media attention from a very young age, she has suffered from an eating disorder, sexual assault, and self-esteem issues. She is very honest as she lays out how events of her life have shaped her.
Through interviews with Taylor, her friends and family, home movies, and news clips, the film demonstrates how Taylor Swift is an open and honest person and she seems truly committed to speaking her truth to use her fame for good. I was very impressed with her story.
